The Blood Cancelled It!

What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

O precious is the flow
that makes me white as snow;
no other fount I know;
nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Baptist Preacher Robert Lowry co-penned this hymn with William Doane.  Nothing But The Blood was a poignant invitation to salvation. Lowry composed, edited, or added music to over 200 hymns.   Though his gifts were well received, Lowry's primary passion was preaching the message of Jesus Christ. He understood that his music only had power when its birth began at the cross.

In the beginning, Adam lived a life we would now covet.  His time was spent in the lush garden fashioned with all that he would ever need.  He experienced the truest definition of "quality time" with a father.  Adam was even given companionship.  What closer mate could you have than one formed from your own rib? Though God gave specific instructions for maintaining harmony, Adam sinned.  His disobedience polluted his blood and alienated us from God.

As a result, throughout the Old Testament, a blood sacrifice was required for the atonement of sin. Can you imagine if we had to sacrifice animals today in order to be forgiven for our sins?   Would there be enough animals? Or would we be jealous of our neighbor because he has a spotless lamb and all we have is a freckled chicken? Thank God for sending us Jesus!

We shouted Hosanna on Palm Sunday, wept on Good Friday, and rejoiced on Resurrection Sunday. Where do we go from here? We follow the trail he left for us in his blood. We as the saints of God should take from the cross, the power and the purpose of the blood!

In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace. Ephesians 1:7
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  1John 1:7-9

Jesus came to restore us back to our Father.  His shed blood was more than the natural result of crucifixion.  When Jesus bled on the cross, he poured out forgiveness, love, cleansing, truth, and redemption. The splinters didn't absorb the power of the blood! Every drop still ministers to the broken hearted and heals the sin-sick soul!

I don't know what you're facing today, but I want you know that every assignment that the enemy has plotted against you has been cancelled by the blood! There's no chaos in your life that cannot be conquered through the blood.  You have been given the authority to speak to your circumstances and rebuke the devil.  Don't pamper and pet him, but let him know that the blood of Jesus is against him!

You may feel bound with generational sin and issues, but that doesn't have to be your story.  Just because your parents battled addiction, it doesn't mean that you have to! No matter what it is, call on the power of the blood! Let it transfuse your mind and reverse the curses that have been spoken over you. On the cross, a bloodline of protection was poured out just for you.

If you're in sin, repent.  There's forgiveness in the blood.
If you're broken and hurting, call on the blood for healing.
If you're struggling with bitterness and guilt, the blood is waiting for you.
The enemy thought his plan against you would work, but the blood cancelled it!

I've seen some harsh days over the years.  I've sat at the beside of my dying son.  After 40 years of holy matrimony to a faithful God-fearing man, I'm now a widow. Nevertheless, I'm still standing.  I'm still willing to give God my all! For every mountain I have faced, God has brought me over.  I wouldn't be here today if it had not been for the blood of Jesus. When the devil thought he could take me out, it was the blood that protected me. I'm a living witness, that it will never lose its power!

Reaching the lost at any cost,
Pastor Odie Kennedy
