Don't Let the Cave Stop You!

Today in Colorado, our Covid numbers are rising. There's so much uncertainty in the air for our schools, hospitals, and even churches. I have to tell you that while I am concerned, I'm not discouraged.  If there is anything that I've learned in 2020, it is to trust God with my whole heart.

If the rate of infection continues to increase, we may all be asked to retreat to our homes again.  The church doors may be forced to close again, but this adjustment has taught us a valuable lesson about worship.  We locked our doors but opened our sanctuaries.  What do I mean? When we couldn't assemble in the church, we met in cyberspace.  We learned to use the camera as our eyes and the keyboard as our touch. Our voices were strengthened. Our reach was extended.

Maybe you aren't wondering what to do next. Maybe you've already decided to throw up your hands.  Let me assure you that I get it. I understand how debilitating this year has been. I get how fear has crept in and paralyzed us at times.  I certainly understand the loss we've suffered among our loved ones.  Nevertheless, I've also seen God move in hospital rooms.  I've seen my entire household healed after contracting Covid. I've seen promotions amid a failing economy.  I've seen spiritual gifts birthed on the sidewalks of our neighborhoods.  All of this was done while we were under restrictions.

I wish I knew when this would all be over. I wish I could tell you just hold on a few more days. It's possible that we may find ourselves back in the four walls of our homes. If you have to go back into the cave, don't let that stop you! You may have had some plans, but trust God's plan. He promised to never leave us nor forsake us. He's omnipresent so he can be with us at the altar of our churches and the altar of our homes.

While you're out, be wise. Wear your mask. Wash your hands. We may have to stay 6 feet away from each other, but we never have to socially distance our hearts from God!

When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.  Isaiah 43:2
