Let the Limp Go

By profession, I'm a nurse. I have seen everything from labored childbirth to labored final breaths. There are three initial questions we ask a patient: "Where does it hurt?" "How long has this been going on?" and "What is your pain level?"  This can agitate a patient, but triage is necessary.  Triage is a process used to identify the urgency of treatment.  A person with a cut that does not need stitches will have to wait to be seen if there is a person who has a severed a member.

I can remember a patient who had broken his knee cap many years ago.  After his injury, he went to see the surgeon.  He was told about the kind of surgery that he would need and the details of the recovery. If you have ever had surgery, you know that that conversation can be a bit overwhelming.  This man decided that he did not want to go through that difficult process. He said, "I'll just deal with it." As a result of his decision to forego the surgery, his knee healed awkwardly and caused him excruciating pain ever since.

Sometimes we can be just like that man. We suffer injustices at the hands of others, but we're afraid of the recovery process.  There are some people who have yet to face their own truth.  Pretending to be okay is walking out of the triage before the doctor can see you.  I don't know why we won't admit when we've been wounded. It may be our fear of more pain or being vulnerable before others.  We must realize and accept that hurt will come, but The Doctor wants to heal you.

If you have not been healed from the pains of your past, you are operating with a limp that will not be silent.  As long as you have not acknowledged your pain level and consented to treatment, that limp will continue to hurt and stop you from being all that God has ordained you to be.  That limp will affect your walk with God. It will show up in how you treat others.  It will cause you to hide from God.

Are you wondering how to let the limp go? It starts with identifying that you are hurting, and then forgiving that offense.  You're right. It is easier said than done, but that is what makes it so valuable.  Letting God work on you will be uncomfortable at times.  It may even scare you, but the exchange of your pain is worth it!

What is your pain level? Are you tired of dragging the past into your present? Are you ready for real deliverance? Tell God where it hurts. Whether it's been five weeks or 15 years, God wants to heal you.   Will you let him? Open your heart, and let the limp go!

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners, Isaiah 61:1 *NIV

Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking be put away from you with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you. Ephesians 4:31-32 *KJV

For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the LORD; because they called thee an Outcast, saying, This is Zion, whom no man seeketh after. Jeremiah 30:17 *KJV
